Scented candles are more than just décor, they’re an experience. A well-made candle has the power to transform your space, set the mood, and create lasting memories through fragrance. But behind the magic lies a careful science of blending waxes, oils, and the right proportions.

Understanding Flash Points in Essential Oils

When working with essential oils, it’s important to know about flash points. The flash point is the temperature at which an oil can ignite when exposed to an open flame. Some essential oils, such as citrus oils, have very low flash points, which means they’re not always suitable for candle making. Adding these oils directly into hot wax can cause them to lose their aroma or, worse, become a fire hazard.

What to do:

  • Always check the flash point of the oils you’re working with.

  • Add fragrance at the recommended wax temperature range, usually after it has cooled slightly, to preserve the scent.

What not to do:

  • Don’t add oils at excessively high temperatures, they’ll simply burn off and leave your candle scentless.

  • Avoid overloading your wax with essential oils that aren’t designed for candle use.

Our Signature Wax & Fragrance Load

At the heart of our candles is our coconut-blended signature wax, a clean, sustainable base that holds fragrance beautifully. We use a 6% fragrance load, which is slightly higher than the industry norm, to ensure the scent lingers in your space without being overwhelming.

This balance means you get a full-bodied fragrance throw, one that welcomes you gently when you walk into the room and continues to delight without becoming cloying.

Why Less Is Often More!

It’s tempting to think that the more fragrance or essential oil you add, the better your candle will smell. But in reality, too much oil can lead to problems:

  1. The wax and oils may not blend properly, leading to separation.

  2. The candle may burn poorly or unevenly.

  3. Overpowering scents can even cause nausea or headaches.

The best approach? Start small and work your way up. By gradually adjusting fragrance levels, you’ll find the sweet spot where scent, burn quality, and atmosphere all come together.

✨ At the end of the day, candle making is about harmony. A beautiful wax, the right balance of fragrance, and mindful blending create candles that don’t just burn – they breathe life into your home.
